BIRTH: The following deposition is included in the probate records for John Castle:
"Know all men by these presents, that I, Malinda Winning of the County of Champaign, State of Ohio, do hereby constitute and appoint William D. Lowry of the same county and state, my attorney, for me and in my name, and for my use, to collect by suit or otherwise, and upon payment to him to receipt for, by release, under seal or otherwise, all debts and demands whatsoever due or owing to me; and especially the amount of money now in the hands of the Probate Court, of the County of Clark, and State of Ohio and due me as one of the Children and heirs, of John Castle, late of Clark County, Ohio, deceased. Whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do in the premises, I do hereby confirm, the same as if I was personally present, and did the same.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of September one thousand eight hundred and fifty five.
Malinda Winning (X her mark)
Witness Samuel Berry"
And then it states "Recd of James L. Tubers[?] Probate Judge of Clark county this the sum of fourteen dollars & thirty one & seven ninth cents, the distribution that are due to Malinda Winning, as one of the children & heirs of John Castle, late of Clark county, deceased, as found in the settlement of [unreadable] estate of sd[?] John Castle decd by Sam'l H. Bowles Administrator of sd[?] estate. Sept 29th 1855 - Malinda Winning by W. D. Lowry her Atty in fact".
BIRTH: Deposition as part of John Castle's probate records states that she is his daughter.
Cemetery inscription from "Cemetery Records, Vol. II, Tombstones Prior to 1900, Champaign Co., Ohio", 1959 (Champaign Co. Public Library) states "Winning, Malinda wife of Israel died 11-30-1876 age 57y 2m 9d", but her gravestone clearly shows 1870. Calculating birthdate from that ought to be 21 Sep 1813.
BIOGRAPHY: The following typed note, written possibly in 1958, was provided by Pearleen (Craig) Boblitt, Sep 2002:
"Malinda [Castle] Winning born probably in Scotland; she is said to have spoken the Scot's dialect. She and presumably her husband Israel and their children emigrated from Harper's Ferry, Va. to Cable, Ohio. No dates. Malinda and Israel lived down the road and up the lane from Perry C. Craig's. Malinda was always fighting with her son-in-law Van Craig, threatening to sue him for trespassing.
Daughter of Malinda and Israel Winning: Elizabeth Winning
Son of Elizabeth Winning and Van Craig--Perry C. Craig
Son of Perry C. Craig and Eva Bailey--Donald Craig
Children of Donald Craig and Nellie Dooley--Pearleen Craig (Mrs. Fred Boblitt) and Carl Craig."
MARRIAGE: Cemetery inscription from "Cemetery Records, Vol. II, Tombstones Prior to 1900, Champaign Co., Ohio", 1959 (Champaign Co. Public Library) states "Winning, Malinda wife of Israel died 11-30-1876 age 57y 2m 9d".
"Early American Marriages, Virginia to 1850", from LDS site gives date and place of marriage.
DEATH: There are major discrepancies with her date of death. I assume that the death record date is right, but not the age (80). I am assuming that the gravestone age is right but that the date was misread there.

Champaign Co. Probate Court Death Records microfilm (Champaign Co. Public Library), Book 1, page 20, #152 states "Winning, Malinda d. 20 Nov 1870, widowed, 80 yrs old, at Union Twp., bp. Virginia, mother and father unknown, race white, died of consumption, residence Union Twp."
BURIAL: Cemetery inscription from "Cemetery Records, Vol. II, Tombstones Prior to 1900, Champaign Co., Ohio", 1959 (Champaign Co. Public Library) states "Winning, Malinda wife of Israel died 11-30-1876 age 57y 2m 9d".
Find A Grave Memorial# 43352241, with gravestone image, clearly shows death 30 Nov 1870. Has links to father and alledged sister Elizabeth Siler.
